Funding of £180,000 has been announced for the upgrading of street lighting and footpaths in Limavady.
The work at Benevenagh Drive, Dunmore Place and Grange Park will be delivered and managed by DRD Roads Service.
The project commenced in December last with the lighting upgrade and will conclude with the footpaths being upgraded.
Announcing the funding, Social Development Minister Nelson McCausland said the upgrading of the footpaths and street lighting would be “extremely beneficial” to all the residents within the Limavady Neighbourhood Partnership Area as Benevenagh Drive was a busy access road, not only for the residents of the Roe Valley estates, but for the wider community.
Mr McCausland added: “This new project is long overdue and once the maintenance works are completed local people will benefit from improved access to many facilities such as Scroggy Road Health Centre, a Young Persons Residential Home and the Limavady Community Development Initiative.
“In addition, this road provides direct access to the recreational facilities in Backburn Path, which was also funded by my Department, and is widely used by the community and local schools.”
Limavady Neighbourhood Renewal Area is made up of five areas/estates – The Glens, Hospital Lane, Josephine Ave, Coolessan and Roe Mill Road.
Four of these five estates were developed in the 1970s while Coolessan was developed in the 1980s.
