POLICE are urging the public to take some simple crime prevention steps after a report of suspicious activity around an ATM in Articlave, Co Derry.
A PSNI spokesperson said: “We all use ATMs as part of everyday life, often in a hurry.
“Please consider the following tips to make sure your transactions are as safe as possible:
– cover the keypad with your hand when entering your PIN number.
– be aware of your surroundings. If you are talking on the phone or wearing head phones you may not be aware of your surroundings.
– if someone tries to distract you or you are unsure of the transaction, just cancel it.
– do not be complacent, a crime can happen around a busy ATM or in a quieter place.
“Please report any suspicious activity around ATM to police as soon as possible on the 101 non emergency number.”
