PEOPLE Before Profit has launched its manifesto today as the March 2 Assembly election gets closer.
The party, which presents itself as an anti-establishment alternative, gained two seats in the last election and they are confident of building on that, fielding seven candidates in six constituencies.
Last May Eamonn McCann took a seat in Foyle while Gerry Carroll took one in west Belfast, both at the expense of Sinn Fein.
In Foyle, Sinn Fein thought it could take a third seat and parachuted Martin McGuinness in its bid.
But it backfire when he got elected at the expense of Maeve McLaughlin.
Some of People Before Profit’s key pledges are: ending privatisation; fight corruption; removing anti-trade union measures; supporting reforms for Irish speakers, women and the LGBTQ community and dealing with legacy issues.
“We are increasing and our support on the ground and on the doors is up and I think the establishment parties are absolutely terrified,” said Eamonn McCann.
He added that the main parties are “spooked” by People before Profit because the public want change.
