The renowned Ulster Orchestra is to perform its Grand Season Opening Concert for the 2013-2014 season in Derry next week.
Under the baton of the orchestra’s principal conductor, JoAnn Falletta, pianist Barry Douglas will perform Liszt’s famous and dramatic First Piano Concerto.
A rarely heard work by a young Richard Straus, described by critics as “a sparkling schezo, influenced in style by the older composer and just as virtuoso to play,” will also he heard.
The concert, which has an 8.00pm start, will take place in the Millennium Forum on Wednesday, September 11, and will open with Ginka’s popular overture and ends with the majestic First Symphony by Brahms.
