Former Derry City captain Peter Hutton, now manager of North West neighbours, Finn Harps, was “brought back to earth with a bang” at the weekend.
His side suffered a 3-2 away league defeat by the same team they had “thumped” 4-0 five days earlier in a FAI Cup third round replay.
Harps could not repeat that away success against Cobh Ramblers on Saturday night when, despite taking the lead on two occasions, went down 3-2 at St Colman’s Park.
Despite a promising start to their league campaign, Saturday night’s reversal sees Harps now level on 27 points with Wexford Youths and just two points ahead of Cobh, who are second from bottom.
The Finn Park club, the only Airtricity Division One side left in the FAI Cup, face a tricky away trip in the quarter-finals of the competition, when they will travel to take on Premiership club Drogheda United on the weekend of September 15 next.
No doubt Hutton is concentrating on that game to hopefully continue their season in style and land a semi-final spot.
