A local writer is taking to the back streets and alleyways in the hope of bringing peace to England’s troubled cities and towns.
Patrick Kearney was inspired to stage a major creative writing and arts project in the aftermath of the 2011 riots which caused damaged running into millions of pounds.
“People Make Cities Not Buildings” will run for three years and will involve hundreds of young people.
Patrick said, contrary to press and media reports, not all those involved in the disturbances were unemployed or from ethnic communities.
He added: “Indeed, many were indigenous white English, middle-class and in full employment. Speaking to them, I discovered most were angry at what they perceived to be blatant acts of corruption and abuse by politicians, bankers, celebrities and the religious, for which no one was seemingly held accountable.”
Patrick added his project was aimed at making an “immediate and direct intervention” to defuse street tensions and prevent the likelihood of further riots.
He added: “My project takes place on street corners and back alleys where young people hang-out.”
