Plans for a major £1 million for play facilities in the Strathfoyle area are to go on public display this week.
Approved plans will be on display for members of the public to view in Strathfoyle Community Centre this Thursday from 9.00am – 9.00pm.
Residents are being encouraged to go along to the day-long session during which they will have the opportunity to put questions on the plans and progression of the project to the Derry City Council’s Park Development Manager who will be in attendance.
Earlier this year, the council announced the approval of plans for three separate schemes at Strathfoyle including the development of a children’s play area, a multi-use games area and a “Green Village,” plans for which will be put on display for the public and residents to view.
John Kelpie, Derry City Council Strategic Director said the area of Strathfoyle had been highlighted as “a location with a lack of park or leisure provisions” and Derry City Council was “delighted” to now present the exciting plans for development of these facilities within this residential area.
Community groups in the area said scheme would see the transformation of an under-utilised site and provide much needed play facilities for local children in this area.
Paul Hughes from Enagh Youth Forum said: “Children and young people have a ‘right to play’ and it is good news that Council is now ready to present the plans to residents of Strathfoyle and ultimately pass to those residents to take ownership.
“I would like to encourage everyone, young and old to come along on Thursday throughout the day to view these plans as representatives who have worked on the plans will be able to answer any questions you may have.”
In order to proceed to the next stage of development of the Strathfoyle Play Park plans, Derry City Council will move to the secure the necessary statutory approvals and funding, the cost of which has been estimated at £1 million.
