A new traffic light system at one of Derry’s busiest road junctions is now in operation.
Work on the £370,000 scheme, which includes traffic lights and a new slip road, at the junction of Northland and Springtown began in July.
The scheme has been welcomed by SDLP MLA for the area, Mark H Durkan.
He said the “long sought” system would be welcomed by people living in the Foyle Springs area and the many road users who travel along the “extremely busy” route.
He added: “As someone who had an accident here before, I am only too well aware of how dangerous a junction this was. “
Mr Durkan, the Environment Minister at Stormont, said he was “delighted” to see the scheme “come to fruition.”
He added: “Having lobbied the current Roads Minister and his predecessor to bring forward these measures, I am delighted to finally see this project come to fruition. Not only will this improve road safety for drivers and pedestrians, it will also hopefully ease traffic congestion in the area.”
