Day 7: Race 2 – The Derry “LondonDerry” Doire is continuing to lead Race 2 in the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race.newtrailer

While it was a good night for the Sean McCarter-skippered vessel as led the 12-strong fleet for the second consecutive night, it was as frustrating night of racing for near challengers Henri Lloyd which, after positioning itself the wrong side of a major wind shift, has fallen into third overnight, allowing Mission Performance move in to second position.

However, it was a different story for the winners of Race 1, Invest Africa, which over the last 24 hours has climbed three places to fifth position and continues to apply the pressure as it makes steady progress on the rest of the fleet.

Rich Gould, skipper of Invest Africa, sent out a warning to the Derry Clipper, as they continue their 5,000 mile crossing of the Atlantic from Brest in France to Rio de Janeiro in Brazil.

Gould said:

“We have been ploughing the North Atlantic in half with boat speed in double figures for pretty much most of the time. I always knew these boats were going to be quicker than the Clipper 68s but I never thought that they would be this much quicker! Invest Africa is awesome, she is flying.”
