Finn Harps travel to Drogheda United tonight for their Ford FAI Cup quarter-final replay, hoping for a similar scoreline the last time they played there – that was five years ago when they came away with a 2-1 win.
Harps came within four minutes of reaching the semi-final at Finn Park on Friday last when they were denied by a late Mark Daly equaliser for Drogheda.
But that doesn’t tell the full story of the game. Harps played all but 11 minutes of the second half with just ten men after Ciaran Coll was sent-off in the 56th minute, a decision that angered Harps boss Peter Hutton who was also sent to the stands.
Looking ahead to tonight’s replay, he said: “The players were obviously gutted at not finishing the job on the night, they will be ready mentally and physically to go again tonight.”
On the team front, Ciaran Coll is suspended due to his red card on Friday while Michael Funston is unavailable due to work commitments. Tommy McMonagle took a blow to his troublesome foot injury and is a doubt. Sean McCarron though returns after a one game ban which saw him miss Friday’s initial game.
Tonight’s game will be played to a finish, with extra time and penalties if required.
