Derry MLA Maeve McLaughlin has today been appointed as chairperson of the Health Committee at the Assembly.
The Sinn Fein representative replaces Sue Ramsey who is temporarily absent due to illness.
Speaking after her appointment, Ms McLaughlin said: “Sue has been doing a great job as chair and hopefully she will return to the committee as soon as possible in good health.”
Ms McLaughlin added she would endeavour to “do my best” to follow the example her predecessor had given as an “an efficient, effective and fair” chairperson of the Health Committee.
She added: “There are many pressing issues facing the Health Department, not least the issue of sexual exploitation involving some young people in care homes, Transforming Your Care and the health minister’s foolish action in appealing the court decision to allow civil partnerships and same sex couples to adopt.”
