Race 2: Day 12 – The Derry “LondonDerry” Doire continues to lead the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race as the 12-strong fleet prepare for the dreaded Doldrums.
The fleet is currently on the 5,000 mile Atlantic crossing from Brest in France to Rio de Janeiro and Sean McCarter, skipper of the Derry Clipper, has reported “everything is holding up very well.”
He added: “Our damage report to date could be scribbled on the back of a beer mat and thankfully there are no majors, only small cosmetic issues.”
The Derry entry is currently passing south west of the Cape Verde Islands He said yesterday was an “uneventful” day and the crew was being well looked after, food wise.
He said: “We peeled from Yankee to wind seeker, early in the morning as the breeze eased, then back to Yankee and staysail in the afternoon as it picked up again. Susie Richards and Olga Baglay have been our latest helming sensations whilst John Gray and Tony Nice (aka Mr. Nice) have been cooking up a storm in the galley!”
