Up to 40 groups are expected to take part in the North West’s biggest Volunteer Fair to be held in Derry next week.
Organised by Derry City Council’s KickStart to Work Programme in partnership with the North West Volunteer Centre, the event will be held in the Millennium Forumon Wedneday next, 25 September, from 10.00am to 5.00pm.
Jacqueline Garnon, manager, North West Volunteer Centre, groups in attendance would be promoting their activities and encourage people to “Say ‘Yes’ to Volunteering.”
She said volunteers were motivated in many different ways, however behind this was “a real strong desire” to make a significant impact on the lives of others.
Jacquelin, has been supporting volunteers locally for many years and recognises how important volunteering can be in their lives.
She added: “Volunteering is a key part of community life here in the city. We at the North West Volunteer Centre know just how much volunteering enhances the lives of local people and in turn helps our communities to grow and develop.
“I would encourage everyone, especially young people, to get involved and during this special year of culture in our city is the perfect time to ‘say yes to volunteering’. Whether it’s to meet new people, learn new skills or to give something back, volunteering is for everybody.”
The Volunteer Fair will bring together a diverse range of groups promoting their activities and recruiting new volunteers. Organisations such as the Culture Company, the Stroke Association and Foyle Hospice will be calling on local people to get involved and give volunteering a try.
Anyone interested in volunteering can turn up on the day and find out more directly from volunteer involving groups. Contact Geoff at the North West Volunteer Centre, telephone 028 7127 1017 or email [email protected] for more info
