A Derry man who shouted abuse at police was among a hostile crowd taking part in a loyalist flag protest, a court has been told.
Jordan Lee James Abbott admitted a charge of disorderly behaviour when he appeared at Derry Magistrates Court this morning.
A solicitor for the Director of Public Prosecution told the court police were faced by a hostile crowd when they were called to the protest at Limavady Road in the Waterside area of the city on 21 January this year.
The court heard the accused was one of the crowd and that he shouted “black b……’ at police.
Defence solicitor asked the court for consideration to be given to the fact the accused had pleaded guilty to the charge at the earliest opportunity.
Magistrate John Connolly imposed a 12 month conditional discharge.
