The people of Derry are being urged to go out and enjoy the late night events being staged across the city on Culture Night.
Derry will join cities across Europe in playing host to an array of cultural activities by providing an opportunity for the public to explore, entertain and enjoy the best of local culture.
Now in its fourth year, the event is a key part of the city’s cultural calendar with more than 40 venues throughout the City of Culture opening their doors for an extended programme of indoor and outdoor heritage, culture and events of historical significance for the whole family to enjoy.
Culture Night is organised by Derry City Council and the public are encouraged to go out on Friday and visit a number of galleries, art spaces, historic buildings and creative businesses
Mayor Cllr Martin Reilly said it was a great opportunity to showcase the city’s cultural offering to the general public.
He said: ““Culture Night is an excellent example of partnership working between local cultural businesses and projects and a superb platform for them to reach new audiences and raise their profile.”
The Mayor added: “Participation from the public in the City of Culture events to date has been phenomenal and I encourage you again to come out on this evening to embrace and experience the new and rich offerings we have here in the city.”
Among the highlights for Culture is the return of the Catwalk in Craft Village event and the Conquest of Happiness event at Ebrington while local museums, art centres, galleries and theatres will all be opening until late with events and unique experiences on offer.
Music will be a key feature on the day with performances taking place in Guildhall Square and at a number of venues across the city.
