Derry athlete Keith Shields’ remarkable season continued unabated today with yet another victory – this time “taking the tape” in the Dungannon 10k.
The Foyle Valley runner, who just a fortnight ago saw off a strong field to win the Waterside Half Marathon, put in yet another dominant performance to cement his reputation as one of the top middle-distance athletes in the North.
Returning to his preferred distance in Dungannon, he once again made his intentions clear from the start and saw off a field containing many of the North’s top middle-distance runners to add yet another accolade to his already bulging trophy cabinet.
As well as the Waterside Half Marathon, among the races the Creggan man has crossed the line first in an impressive season, have been the Riverine 10k in Lifford and the North West 10k in Letterkenny.
It was his win in 13.2 mile Derry event many believe is his finest achievement – it was his first time competing in a half marathon
The successes are just reward for Shields whose dedication to the sport sees his strict training regime include early morning sessions in all types of weather conditions.
