North West cricketer Boyd Rankin said it was “a dream come true” to be included in the England Ashes squad for the upcoming winter series against Australia.
The Bready man’s inclusion comes after his impressive one day international debut for England against Australia during the summer.
And he believes he can make an impact against the Aussies in their own back yard.
He said: “”I’ve shown what I can do and I think with the pitches out there, with that extra pace and bounce that I can trouble the batsmen.”
He added: “Having watched the Ashes growing up in it is a dream come true to be included in the squad, especially as the series is to be played in Australia.”
Rankin (29), a right-arm medium-fast bowler, is currently playing for Warwickhisre. Standing at 6 ft 7 inches and has a distinctive bouncing action in his bowling.
In August 2012 last year, he announced he would cease playing for Ireland after 37 one day international appearances, with the hope of one day playing for the English team. He debuted for England against New Zealand in a T20 match on 25 June this year.
Nicknamed “Boydo” he was educated at Strabane Grammar School, Harper Adams University College
