A former mayor of Derry has welcomed the announcement the Pan Celtic Festival will be coming to Derry in 2014 and 2015.
Cllr Kevin Campbell, Sinn Fein representative for the Creggan area, said the announcement was “great news” for the city.
He added: “It follows on from the outstanding success of Derry hosting the 2013 Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann . The Pan Celtic Festival attracts visitors from throughout Ireland as well as the other Celtic nations. This will be the first time that the festival has been hosted in the North and I am sure that Derry will prove to be a great location for the event.”
An Fhéile Phan Cheilteach or Pan Celtic Festival aims are to promote and strengthen Celtic languages, culture, music, song and sport and to encourage inter-Celtic tourism, trade, and commerce. It is held annually at Easter in Ireland. and is expected to attract in excess of 10,000 visitors from all parts of Ireland as well as other Celtic regions such as Brittany, Cornwall, Wales, Scotland and the Isle of Man.
