The Housing Executive and its staff in Derry are at “breaking point,” according local MLA Pat Ramsey.
The SDLP representative is seeking an urgent meeting with the regional manager of the Housing Executive in the North West to discuss the “severe pressure” he claims staff are enduring.
Mr Ramsey said: “The staff at all our local offices in the City doing a brilliant job in sometimes the most difficult of circumstances in tackling the thousands of cases that come through their doors and from external agencies such as political offices.
“It has become clear to me that over the last number of months in particular that the staff are very much under severe pressure, and the regional management of the Executive need to step in and address staffing and resource issues in the Derry offices.
“There has been a staff shortage in the local offices for some time, putting immense pressure on staff who have had sometimes had to be seconded to Housing Benefit offices who are also short staffed. This is not how the Housing Executive that many depend on should be working. I am calling on the regional management to meet with me urgently so we can address the very real resource problems apparent to staff and to me in my regular contact with offices.”
