Members of the public are being invited to go on a tour with difference to discover the myths and legends of the Faughan Valley area.
The Faughan Valley Landscape is inviting you to join them on a heritage tour with a difference, where you will be encouraged to discover a range of historical sites with a guide who will detail the history of the Faughan Valley region.
The tour is scheduled to take place on Sunday next, 6 October, between 2.00pm and 5.00pm at the RAPID Offices, 2 Foreglen Road, in Claudy.
Mayor Cllr Martin Reilly is encouraging the public to take part. He said the event was a great opportunity to enjoy the outdoors while at the same time learn some interesting facts about the local environment and its history.
He said: “This is a great opportunity to visit key sites such as Brackfield Bawn, Learmount Castle and Ballygroll to name a few and to help understand the meaning and importance of these sites some interesting characters will be on hand to tell their story and other mythical tales and poems of long ago, including, Thomas Hamilton the Land Agent for Edward Donnigton and a warrior from the Iron Age.”
He added: “This is a fun and informative bus tour with the opportunity to walk about at key sites. All walks will be moderate but participants are encouraged to wear appropriate footwear for muddy ground. Everyone is welcome but spaces are limited so book early to avoid disappointment.”
The Faughan Valley Landscape Partnership Scheme involves a working partnership between RAPID, Derry City Council and the Woodland Trust supported by Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF), “Landscape Partnerships.”
The project vision is to “create a vibrant, natural and cultural diverse landscape within the Faughan Valley that the whole community appreciates, and is engaged with, making it a sustainable landscape for living”
