The funeral of the popular young Derry man, Patrick Friel Curran who died in America on Tuesday last, will take place this morning.
Patrick (23) passed away in a New York Hospital on Tuesday, two days after being admitted. He had been staying in the “Big Apple” for three months and was due to return home to Derry on Thursday last.
His remains were brought back to Derry on Friday and will leave the family home in The Branch at 10.15am this morning for 11.00am Requiem Mass in the nearby Church of the Holy Family, Ballymagroarty.
Following his death, numerous fundraisers have taken place to assist his family with the financial burden of returning him home.
Among those who donated to the fundraising was Irish international footballer, James McClean. The former Derry City winger, now with Wigan Athletic in the English Championship, also donated memorabilia to be raffled.
Patrick’s family have announced enough money has been raised and asked anyone who is carrying out fundraising to donate their collections to a “good cause” of their choice in Patrick’s memory.
Patrick’s brother, Damien, said the family had been “overwhelmed” by the generosity of the people of Derry.
