Northern Ireland Electricity say the cause of the ongoing power cut in the city is due to an “area fault with a circuit.”
Power to a large part of the city went off at just after 10.30sm this morning leaving thousands of homes without electricity.
NIE say their engineers are currently working to get power restored as soon as possible but said it could take until 2.00pm today before the fault is fixed.
Meanwhile, motorists and pedestrians are being advised to take extra care at road junctions and crossings due to traffic lights being out of operation.
A number of shops have been forced to close and automated bank dispensing machines (ATMs) have also shut down.
