City of Derry AC’s Alan Bogle took first place in the Slieve Gallion Mountain Race run yesterday over a five mile course in the Sperrin Mountains.
The event was the final race of the 2013 NIMRA (Northern Ireland Mountain Running Association) Grand Prix and started in Iniscarn Forest.
Five miles in length, with a (530 metre ascent) it is one of the few mountain races to be held outside Co Down.
Bogle hit the front from the off to win in a time of 41 minutes 54 seconds with 66 seconds to spare over second placed Alec Brennan of Ballymena Runners with Clive Bailey of Mourne Runners in third in a time of 43.26.
The ladies race was won by Shileen O’Kane from Lagan AC in 49.11, followed by Anne Sandford, also Lagan AC, in 55:15.
As well as City of Derry and Foyle Valley AC runners from Derry, the event was well supported by clubs including Ballymena Runners, Mourne Runners, Newcastle AC, Lagan Valley AC, North Belfast Harriers, Larne AC, Glen Runners, Pegasus AC and Dromore AC.
