Foyle MP Mark Durkan has expressed his concern over a delay in funding for the Museum of Free Derry which would jeopardise the entire £2 million rebuild.
Mr Durkan was speaking after it emerged Arlene Foster, the Minister for the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Investment (DETI) has allegedly refused to sign a letter to release the funding from the Northern Ireland Tourist Board for the redevelopment of Glenfada Park museum.
The SDLP represented said he was “very concerned” a delay in confirming due approval of funding via the Tourist Board could jeopardise “such an important project.”
Mr Durkan said other funding lines for the Free Derry Museum could be lost in the absence of the necessary confirmation from DETI and the Tourist Board.
He added: “Given the work of so many people – in the spirit of the One Plan and in support of the Signature Tourism Project to ensure investment in good visitor experiences of the rounded historic narrative of the city – this is an unworthy and unnecessary difficulty.”
The museum tells the story of Bloody Sunday and relatives those killed have described the delay as “an absolute disgrace” and “scandalous.”
