Police are checking CCTV footage after lifebelts were removed from Derry’s Peace Bridge and thrown into the River Foyle at the weekend.
It is believed every lifebelt on the bridge was removed and thrown over the bridge’s railings at 1.00am on Sunday morning.
The lifebelts were recovered and returned to the bridge by a crew from the Foyle Search and Rescue.
Those responsible have been condemned by Derry SDLP MLA Pat Ramsey.
He said: “Lifebelts are not toys they are there to save someone’s life.”
Anyone with information about the incidentis asked to contact police on 0845 600 8000 or a member of their local Neighbourhood Team directly, details of which can be found on the PSNI website.
