It’s one of the Derry’s most iconic buildings but over Halloween St Columb’s Hall will be overrun with mini-monsters and tiny terrors as the city’s children take over it for two days of freaky fun.
It will be a magical mid-term for children in the city this year as the Haunted Hall hosts a series of spooky shows over October 30 and 31, with scary stories and eerie entertainment to suit all ages. Parents will be even more delighted to find out that all the shows are totally free.
The events are being run by Derry City Council, and speaking on behalf of the council’s Economic Development Department, Linda Williams said it was a great way to get into the Halloween spirit.
She said: “Hallowe’en is such a magical time for children, and the St Columb’s haunted hall is a fantastic venue to host some special events for kids of all ages. With so much already being spent on costumes and trick or treating, this is a great way to treat them to an exciting afternoon without having to spend a fortune.
“And with shows for children as young as two, all the family can get involved – I would encourage everyone to come along and enjoy some spine-tingling tales, magic and mayhem.”
Things will get underway with an Once Upon a Time Storytelling session, fairy tale fun and fantasy for kids aged between two to six. The show begins at 1.00 pm and run until 1.40pm, with repeat performances at 2.45pm and 4.15pm.
1.30pm sees the charming story of the beautiful Butterfly and the creepy Caterpillar which will bewitch their younger viewers with song and dance, as they tell the story of how this pair of opposites becomes friends after a birthday disaster. This is the perfect show for younger children as it only lasts 20 minutes. Repeat performances take place every hour at 2.30pm, 3.30pm and 4.30pm.
For more adventurous Halloween horrors visit the Wicked Wile North West where some weird and wonderful characters from Scary Derry cast spooky sells and tell terrifying tales that only the bravest boo-oys and ghouls will be able to sit through. This show is for children aged between six and 12.
All shows throughout the two days are free, and children must be under-12 and accompanied by an adult. And these performances are just a few highlights in a jam-packed week-long programme of events for all ages running from 26 October – 03 November 2013 with plenty of fun for grown up ghosts and ghouls as well.
