Hundreds are expected to compete in the this morning’s Marty’s Run taking place in and around the Carnhill area of Derry.
The event his being organised by Foyle Valley AC whose popular 24-year-old member Martin Gallagher was killed by a hit-and-run driver on Racecourse Road as he made his way to his Sandale Park home after attending he city’s Halloween celebrations in 2009.
Mr Gallagher was a popular member of Foyle Valley running club and had completed a number of marathons.
Hundreds are expected to take part in the annual 5K Run/Walk which will start on Glengalliagh Road at 11.00am outside St Brigid’s High School.
Late entries are being accepted up until 10.30am at Templemore Sports Complex. The race fee is £10 with proceeds going to local charities. The first 700 participants will presented with a commemorative t-shirt while all finishers will receive refreshments and there will be prizes for all the usual running categories.
