The funeral of Derry murder victim Barry McCrory has got under way.
The remains of 35 year old man shot dead in the city on Thursday last are currently being taken from his family’s home in Cornshell Fields in the Ballyarnett area to St Joseph’s Church in Galliagh for Requiem Mass.
Around 50 people are accompanying the remains on the two mile journey.
Speaking yesterday, the dead man’s mother, Ann, said she hoped her son was in heaven.
She said her son, who had over 100 criminal convictions in the court, was “not the worst of the worst” and had been attempting to “turn his life around.”
Mr McCrory was shot dead by a lone gunman in flat in Shipquay Street. The PSNI have launched a manhunt for Kieran McLaughlin (58), a man they say they want to talk to in relation to the killing.
Over 100 police officers are involved in the hunt for McLaughlin. Police have confirmed since the killing they have spoken to a number of the people in the city about their safety.
