Residents living in proximity to Magee University face a “nightmare” when it comes to parking outside their homes, a local councillor has claimed.
Sinn Fein Cllr Barney O’Hagan said he has been inundated with complaints from residents in the area about the issue.
He said one resident said living beside the university had become an “absolute nightmare.”
Cllr O’Hagan said: “Several residents I have spoken to in the Northland Estate are angry they are being hemmed in their homes by this inconsiderate parking. We also have to take into consideration residents who have disabilities, carers who have to visit the sick and elderly in their homes many of whom who are working to a tight schedule and are having to park maybe two or three streets away from their point of call.”
Cllr O’Hagan said it was “clearly obvious” that currently the University did not provide enough car parking facilities for its users and this is having a knock on effect in the surrounding streets.
He revealed he was seeking a meeting with the university authorities and DRD Roads Service who, he said, “jointly have a duty of care to the residents.”
