The Royal Shakespeare Company (RSC) returns to Derry for the first time in over two decades this week to stage a powerful and provocative performance starring acclaimed Irish actress Camille O’Sullivan.
O’Sullivan will star alongside renowned local musician Feargal Murray in The Rape of Lucrece being staged at the Waterside Theatre as part of the City of Culture programme.
This politically charged performance has already won acclaim in Dublin where it played last week at the Dublin Theatre Festival, as well as gaining the attention of the critics at the Edinburgh Festival after successful tours in Australia and Poland.
Speaking ahead of their arrival in the city, the show’s producer Zoe Donegan said: “Audiences from around the globe have responded with real enthusiasm to the piece, and we can’t wait to bring the show to another new audience I know that Feargal is especially pleased to be performing on home turf! We can’t wait to arrive and be part of the celebrations!’
This musical take on Shakespeare has been described as “a daring and wonderful reshaping of Shakespeare in a contemporary form” and O’Sullivan has been praised for her seamless movement between tortured protagonists Tarquin and Lucrece.
The show runs for three nights at the Waterside Theatre from this Friday, 18 October, tickets priced £12.50 or £10 plus (booking fee where applicable) are on sale now from the Waterside Theatre and Millennium Forum Box Office. This production is not suitable for under 16s.
