Locally based packaging company Diamond Corrugated has been confirmed as Event Partner for Turner Prize 2013 in Derry.
This year will be the first time that Tate has taken the Turner Prize exhibition outside England and Diamond Corrugated, Ireland’s largest independent packaging producer, has availed of the unique opportunity to sponsor one of the most prestigious events of City of Culture programme.
A key element of the partnership will see Diamond Corrugated design and produce bespoke cardboard furniture for the Turner Prize 2013 Learning Programme.
Working alongside the Turner Prize 2013 team, Diamond Corrugated have produced over 70 pieces of furniture including chairs, tables, benches, coffee tables and stools which are being created for the education space in the former stables at Ebrington where the Turner Prize 2013 Learning Programme is being delivered.
Operations director of Diamond Corrugated, Maureen McLaughlin, said it was always the company’s intention to be a part of the City of Culture celebrations.
She added: “For a local company like ours to have an association with an event of such global standing as the Turner Prize was something that we simply couldn’t pass up. One of the most exciting aspects of our partnership has been the opportunity for our designer, Will Colvin, to create corrugated furniture for the learning programme.
“Creativity and innovation have been fundamental to our growth and success and our partnership with the Turner Prize 2013 allows us a show case for that creativity and our design expertise – particularly appropriate given the nature of the Turner Prize itself.”
