Sections of Lowry’s Lane will be closed over the next ten weeks to facilitate £179,000 improvement works.
As part of Derry City Council’s Active Travel programme, contractors will commence resurfacing, fencing and landscape works along the lane from this Monday, 21 October until Friday, 20 December.
It is planned to close one section at a time and the public will be re-directed via Creggan Road.
Apologising for any inconvenience caused, the Council spokesperson said the temporary closure was deemed necessary in the interests of health and safety and the area would be re-opened to the public once the works are completed in December.
Almost £200,000 improvement works are to be carried out at a Derry walkway once blighted by anti-social behaviour.
The Department of Transport is contributing £154,000 with additional funding of £25,000 being provided by the City Council. The work is to be undertaken by Tyrone-based Newtownstewart Construction Limited.
