The allocation of more than £2 million towards Strabane’s pedestrian bridge project puts the project “firmly back on track,” a local councillor has said.
Sinn Fein Cllr Brian McMahon said £2.1m from the Department of Social Development should see the project completed early in 2015.
The bridge over the River Mourne will link the Head of the Town with the Ballycolman area.
Cllr McMahon said elected representatives would continue to do all within their power to move the project towards completion.
He added: “As with all budget allocations of this nature, the £2.1 allocation has now to be cleared by the Assembly’s Department of Finance and Personnel and with a projected timescale of four weeks for this process to be completed, Council will be seeking to move to the construction phase and completion as quickly as practically possible.”
