About 40 firefighters last night spent over six hours tackling a major fire at the derelict site of a former school in the Waterside area of Derry.
It took eight fire crews to bring blaze at the old Faughan Valley High School campus on the Drumahoe Road under control.
The fire was reported at around 8.30pm and fire crews from Crescent Link and Northland Road in the city where backed up by firefighters from Limavady, Dungiven and Strabane.
No one was injured in the fire which is thought to have started accidentally.
Faughan Valley High School amalgamated with Clondermot High School in 2004 to form Lisneal College.
It is the second major fire at a former school in the city in the last two months.
St Peter’s High School in the Creggan area is to be demolished following a blaze there last month.
