The team behind the Derry’s City of Culture programme has been praised by one of the city’s Church leaders for putting on a wide-ranging and imaginative selection of events.
Dr Ken Good, the Church of Ireland Bishop of Derry, was speaking after three board members of the Culture Company, set up to run the year-long event, resigned their positions and the announcement the company was to be wound up three months earlier than was expected.
In his presidential address at the Diocesan Synod in Clooney Hall in Derry yesterday, Bishop Good said: “A wide-ranging and imaginative selection of shows, performances, projects, conferences and other events, which the Culture Company has co-ordinated has brought about a further enhancement of the city’s image and profile.”
Bishop Good paid a special tribute Shona McCarthy, chief executive of the Culture, stating she and her team “deserve much credit for drawing up such a successful programme.”
