Parents dreading mid-term and the relentless questions about what to do next are being invited to an evening with a difference when families can embark on a Halloween trail around “Scary Derry” that promises something to suit every member of the family.
Throughout next week, the city will be transformed into Scary Derry, with an specially spooky Hallowe’en themed programme of events for all ages – most of them free.
Discover some hidden Halloween delights as you explore the city’s walls, enjoy some continental cuisine, followed by a feast of festive flame as you take in the sights on both sides of the beautiful River Foyle.
Begin your journey with The Awakening of the Walls celebration, which will take visitors on a visual adventure leading from the historic Memorial Hall right to Ferryquay Gate.
Marking 400 years of fascinating history, a number of local artists have been working with the North West Carnival Initiative to produce a stunning collection of illuminations, sculptures and props to scare and surprise those who dare to walk the walls at night.
The Awakening the Walls event takes place on Tuesday and Wednesday next from 6.00pm – 9.00pm.
And if you survive your eerie encounters on the Walls, why not step off the walls and for some retail therapy with a visit to the Continental Market, where you can enjoy culinary delights from across the globe, as well as a whole range of continental crafts.
The market will open in the Guildhall Square on Tuesday and will run each night to 10.00pm until Saturday.
To end your evening take a stroll across the city’s Peace Bridge and enter a mythical realm of fantasy and flame, at the dazzling Inferno, an unique landscape theatre production being brought to the city by LUXe.
Tickets for the Inferno show cost £3 per person or £10 for a family of two adults and three children. Shows take place on Tuesday and Wednesday between 6.00pm and 8.00pm, and Thursday between 5.00pm and 6.30pm before the Hallowe’en Carnival begins at 7.00pm.
