Derry City Council has strenuously denied it failed to deliver on a £10 million promise to the group set up to run Derry’s City of Culture celebrations.
The Culture Company claimed the council had pledged £14m but had only paid just over £4m.
The company said it received £3.7m and £500,000 for marketing rather than the £14m pledged in the bid document.
However, the council has hit back saying it had honoured and exceeded its financial commitment for 2013.
A spokesperson said: “The original bid references a commitment of £11m across four financial years (2010-2014) which refers to existing expenditure in cultural, festivals, events, museum and sport budgets.
“As detailed in the bid, Derry City Council pledged an additional commitment of £3.8million for 2011-2013. This investment has been honoured and exceeded. There is an anticipated overall financial deficit at the end of 2013.”
The spokesperson concluded: “Other government resources and partners have also made a significant contribution to the success of 2013.”
