A viable explosive device in a package intercepted at a Royal Mail sorting office was addressed to a senior PSNI officer in Derry.
The device was one of two found yesterday by postal workers in the Royal Mail’s sorting office at Mallusk and postal delivery office in Lisburn.
The Lisburn device had been addressed to Chief Inspector Jon Burrows who is based at PSNI headquarters at Strand Road police station.
The other device was intended for PSNI Chief Constable Matt Baggott at Knock headquarters.
Assistant Chief Constable Will Kerr said dissidents were believed to be behind the attacks.
“We need community support and information to help us tackle these groups effectively and that is what we are asking,” he added.
Secretary of State Theresa Villiers condemned the bombs, describing them as “callous and reckless.”
