Those behind two bomb hoaxes in the Waterside area of Derry today have been challenged to explain the reason behind their actions.
A number of homes were evacuated in the Mimosa Court and Strabane Old Road. Controlled explosions were carried out but police later confirmed both were hoaxes.
Sinn Féin councillor Bridget Meehan said: “Whoever was behind this incident should explain to local residents what they have achieved by forcing families from their homes?”
DUP Deputy Mayor of Derry Gary Middleton said people were annoyed they had been put of our their homes.
He said: “We have been told that a device has been left at an elderly person’s home so the motivation for this is very, very unclear.”
SDLP MLA Pat Ramsey said “many vulnerable residents” had been forced from their homes.
