Those removing street signs in the Ballymagroarty area are putting lives in danger, according to a local councillor.ballymagroartysign

Sinn Fein’s Eric McGinley has called for an end to the removal of street signage.

He said he was concerned the confusion will cause to emergency services attempting to reach certain addresses in what could be very serious situations.

He added: “In an emergency, every second counts.”

Cllr McGinley added: “There has been an ongoing problem in Ballymagroarty with the removal and damage of street signage. Not only does this lead to the expense of replacing signs it also makes it difficult for those unfamiliar with the area to find specific addresses.”

He also claimed the theft and damage of signage is also having a detrimental effect on visitor accommodation in the area.

The problem is particularly evident in the lower part of Ballymagroarty and I would appeal to the local community to work together to bring an end to this disruptive and potentially dangerous practice.”
