Derry City duo, striker Rory Patterson and defender Simon Madden, have made into the RTE Airtricity Team of the Year for the 2013-2014 season.
Not surprisingly, the team is dominated by players from newly-crowned champions St Patrick’s Athletic.
Former Derry City boss Stephen Kenny has been named Manager of the Year after taking Dundalk to second place in the Airtricity Primiership and taking the Lily Whites back into Europe.
In choosing Madden, the panel said he was one of the league’s best full backs for the past five years and was “exceptional” all season for Derry.
“Madden’s energy to get forward added an extra dimension to the Candy Stripes’ attack and the fact that he edged St Pat’s right back Ger O’Brien out of this 11 proves how consistent he has played throughout the 2013 campaign.”
As the league’s top goalscorer it was no surprise City’s Rory Patterson was chosen to for the lone striker’s spot.
The panel said: “With only one striker selection up for grabs in our team of the year, it ultimately came down to goals scored and Rory Patterson never looked likely to give up that title, finishing with 18 league goals.
“City’s title challenge came unstuck in the second half of the season but they will be back in contention next season should they rediscover their team-spirit and keep Patterson firing on all cylinders.”
The 2013-2014 Team of the Year is as follows:
Goalkeeper: Barry Ryan (Limerick City).
