Over 60 jobs are to be created in Derry supermarket giant Sainsbury’s.
Sixty-four permanent and part-time posts will be the result of a multi-million pound revamp of the company’s Meadowbank store and bring its workforce to over 300.
Refurbishment work is currently under way at the store which will close for one week from Tuesday next, 5 November, to complete the upgrade.
When complete, the store will have a new click and collect system which will bring the Sainsbury’s online offer to the North West for the first time.
The expansion will also the introduction of a range of non food lines brought to Derry for the first time including a cookshop, stationery, toys, small domestic appliances, textiles and ladies clothing.
The jobs announcement has been welcomed by John Boyle, SDLP councillor for the Northland area.
He said: “These are much needed jobs for local people at a time when the employment market is relatively stagnant.”
