Betting on Martin O’Neill becoming the next Republic of Ireland manager has been suspended by Dublin bookmakers.
The 61-year-old Co Derry man, a former pupil of St Columb’s College in the city, is the clear favourite to be appointed by the Football Association of Ireland as successor to former boss Giovanni Trapattoni.
Reports suggest O’Neill could be unveiled as manager as early as next week ahead of the Republic’s friendlies against Latvia on 15 November in the Aviva Stadium and away to Poland in Poznan four days later.
