Alan Bogle (City of Derry) and Pius McIntyre (Foyle Valley) are among the favourites foR the Sperrin Harriers Winter Trail Series taking place today in Davagh Forest, just outside Cookstown in Co Tyrone.
The popular series never fails to attract runners from across the North and this newly introduced venue, which offers a vast range of newly constructed, quality trails will prove an excellent setting for the opening race of this season’s Winter League, which will see competitors complete an undulating 10k course.
Allan Bogle is in good form at the moment, producing an excellent performance at the Springwell crosscountry race two weeks ago to claim a podium place, in what was a very strong field.
The Orienteering expert has also picked up top honours at Binnian to the Top and Castlewellan Trail Race, as well as podium spots at the Active Antrim 5 mile road race, the Gortin 10k and the Downhill Demesne Trail Race.
McIntyre won three races in this Series last year he will be hoping to replicate that form this term.
There should be no reason why he can’t as he has been running well of late, having posted run personal bests over 3,000m (9:57.26), 5,000m (16:09.91) and 10k (33:14) this year, with the most notable of these being the 10k performance, which saw him finish as runner up in the Riverine 10k in Co Donegal.
