The event is being staged as part of the Killer Book Crime Festival which has attracted leading crime writers from throughout Britain and beyond.
Speaking ahead of the Q&A session he said he was ready whatever comes his way in the way of questions.
He added: “I am very familiar with the level of interest the Irish can take in someone so I know I may get asked about absolutely anything.”
Child is no stranger to Derry as he has visited the city as a teenager.
He revealed: “My father is from Belfast and his sister, my aunt, married a man from Derry and I still have cousins there.”
“I haven’t been there since I was a teenager, although I have been back to Belfast a few times and I really like it. It is a fine European city now.
