Race 4 of the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race will see the 12-strong fleet set sail from Cape Town, South Africa, to take on the Southern Ocean to Albany, Western Australia.
The Derry “LondonDerry” Doire will be hoping for a high place at the end of Race 4 which is expected to finish on 24 November.
The Derry entry can expect a higher average speed as this time the boats sailing into the Roaring Forties of the Southern Ocean with its infamous deep low pressure systems and strong winds that build up huge waves.
None of the yachts have yet exceeded 300 miles in a day but they are getting close and it is expected that at least one crew will achieve this during the crossing to Albany.
