The brother of Richard Quigley, the Derry man critically injured in a hit and run accident in Thailand last week, has thanked everyone who has contributed to the fundraising to cover his medical expenses.
Richard (27), from Ederowen Park in Galliagh, had to undergo emergency lifesaving surgery following the incident which occurred Bangkok on Thursday of last week. He has been working in the Thai capital as a barman for the past three years.
Richard’s elder brother, Stephen, has flown to Bangkok to be by his bedside and said he was “improving” ever day.
Since news of the accident, fundraising has been taking place in Derry to help with Richard’s medical bills.
One of the biggest events was held last night in Da Vinci’s which raised an amazing £7,000. Top prize on the night was an Argentinian football jersey signed by Barcelona star, Lionel Messi, the world player of the year.
Stephen said: “A massive thank you to everyone who, in any way, contributed to last night’s fundraiser in Da Vincis and other events over the last week. It was a great night and £7,000 was raised. This will do wonders in helping Richard’s recover. It looks like everyone had a great time.”
He added: “Richie is improving a little every day and I am looking forward to telling him about everything that has been done back home.”
