Gas heating is to be installed in homes in Harding Street just off Derry’s Abercorn Road, it has been confirmed.
The news has been welcomed by Derry Sinn MLA Maeve McLaughlin who said she was “glad” the installation was to take place before the harsh winter months.
The work follows a survey carried out in the area by gas company Firmus to see if there was a level of interest for the service.
Ms McLaughlin, chairperson of the Health Committee at Stormont, said: “I met with residents back in March of this year and they called for the option of the installation of gas heating systems into their homes. I had discussions with the Firmus Energy and lobbied on residents behalf and explored what financial assistance there was available to install the gas systems.”
She added: “I am glad that the outcome of the survey has now resulted in the installation of gas heating systems in homes on Harding Street. And that it’s happening just ahead of the worst winter months.”
