Concerns have been expressed following the discovery of drug paraphernalia lying on openly on a road.
The improvised cannabis “bong” was found by a resident of the Beldoo area of Strabane.
Local councillor Karina Carlin said residents were angered and disgusted that the “crude smoking” device was abandoned in such a way that it could have been found by children.
The Sinn Féin representative said given the crudeness of the “improvised” device the likelihood was that it was made, and used, by young people.
The find follows the discovery recently by residents in the Ballycolman Estate in Strabane of various bottles of alcohol stashed in the vicinity of a children’s play area at the bottom of the estate.
Cllr Carlin said: “Thankfully, they were able to remove and dispose of them before any young child would have been unfortunate enough to possibly find or try and consume them.”
She concluded: “Incidents such as these flag up the importance for parents to be continually re-enforcing the education message around the dangers of drugs and alcohol and all the related health and social problems that emanate from them.”
