One of the leading luminaries in the world music scene, Rokia Traore, will be appearing at the Nerve Centre in Derry this Saturday as part of the City of Culture celebrations during this weekend’s “Women of the World Festival.”
Singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist Traore is equally celebrated for her albums and live shows, which “Time Out” has described as “arguably the most exciting, most thrilling live African music show around.”
Traore was the first artist to be announced for the 2013 Glastonbury festival, and she headlined WOMAD on July 27. Her new album “Beautiful Africa” was released, to rave reviews, in April on Nonesuch Records.
Graeme Farrow, Culture Company’s executive programmer, said said it was a “bit of coup” to bring Traore to the city for her only date on the island.
He added: “Rokia is the queen of African music right now and one of the best live acts on the planet.”
Tickets for the show cost £16.50 including booking fee and are available from the Culture Company box office at www.millenniumforum.co.uk.
